my holidays has been nothing short of great. a great thank you to our munjen peoples for the long holiday. nyahha. and the best thing is the holiday hasnt ended yet! sentosa tmr with my ladies.. and a movie date with the tk gang at night? damnn.. there goes time for revision, but heck its a sacrifice im willing to make =D
so dad fetched me home from sab's place today cos i was too lazy to take a bus home from kallang. we got talking and i started asking him questions about my racial disposition cos i was just curious really and heyy.. surprise surprise.
i knew i had chinese blood (from zee dad) so in jest i asked him 'never go visit your cheena relatives arh?' to which he replied, in all solemnity 'i dont know that side of the family' so i was like eh? this ol' man sounds serious.. so hence the probing began.
turns out my dad's great grandfather is pure chinese but then his son (MY great grandfather) married a malay woman and had my grandpa who married a woman of indian mix (my grandmom) and had my dad who married my mom.. whose of indian descendant but thats too confusing so im not even gonna go there.
so when my great gandfather married into a malay pham, i guess his daddy-o wasnt too happy so they kinda broke all relations. and my great gran changed his nationality to malay to make things easier i suppose. [back then your children get free education if you were of malay descent so haha you cunning cheena man you]
then afterwards he said 'actually azimah takde darah malay tau..' which roughly translates into me having absolutely no malay blood and i was like whaaaaaaat. cos he said my mum's of indian descent and he's of chinese+indian descent and the only link i have to malay-ism is my mom's mom who i think/hope/pray is pure malay. so the bomb dropped here today is that im not actually predominantly malay like i thought i was. might mean peanuts to you but when its something you've acquainted yourself with for the past 18+ years.. kinda shakes your world for a lil wee bit y'know.
but i was raised a malay all my life with the uhh certain shortcomings like not being able to stomach spicy food and stuff so heyy malay i am (: i like what my dad shared with me today, gives me a deeper understanding of my roots and if people pose questions pertaining to my race. id just say.. singaporean lorh.
